Junior Event
Alex and Helen Yates, long standing and very generous Patrons of the band, presented the prizes at the very successful junior event on Saturday 13th February 2010.
Eighteen young soloists from the junior band competed for the top prizes in two sections by performing well known slow melody tunes to a large audience.
The adjudicator was the former principal euphonium player with the Dalmellington Senior Band, Alison Bonnar, who now holds the position of Principal Euphonium with the Scottish Champions – Co-operative FuneralCare Band in Glasgow. The Piano Accompanist was senior band player – Sandy McAughtrie.
Following the solo contest Alison performed three solos accompanied by the junior band and delighted the audience with her virtuosi playing. The junior band was conducted by Ian Taylor.
The prize winners were:
Intermediate Section:- 1st ….. Rebecca Wilson - Cornet 2nd ….. Rachael Jones - Cornet 3rd ….. Kieran Purdie - Eb Bass 4th ….. Fiona Kennedy - Cornet
Advanced Section:- 1st ….. Cameron Paterson - Eb Bass 2nd ….. Duncan McCluskie - Bb Bass 3rd ….. Becky Mitchell - Horn 4th ….. Lisa Chalmers - Flugel Horn
The George F.Monksfield Trophy, to the player who has made most progress during the year, was won by Duncan McCluskie and Duncan also won the Ray & Bobby Dunn Trophy for the player’s “Player of the Year”, voted by the players.
Senior Event
Jan Murray – Band Secretary presented the prizes at the senior event on Saturday 20th February 2010.
Nineteen soloists, including 3 of the top 4 junior prize winners from the previous week competed for a large selection of trophies. The adjudicator was world famous cornet soloist – Roger Webster from England, who thrilled the audience with 5 solos during the evening concert, accompanied by the senior band, conducted by Archie Hutchison The Piano Accompanist was Gordon Cree.

Best Bass Trophy was won by Chris Dale, Best Euphonium/Baritone Trophy was won by Ian Taylor, Best Cornet Trophy was won by Graeme McCulloch and the Dale Salver, awarded to the person who has given exceptional service during the year, as voted by the players, was won by Ian Taylor and the Mary Reid Quaich, to the “best background worker” was won by Helen Scobie.
