On Friday 4th September 2009 Hugh Johnstone MBE has reached yet another milestone in his illustrious banding career as he achieved a remarkable 70 years with Dalmellington Band

and the Scottish Brass Band Movement in 2009.

Hugh has received numerous prestigious awards for outstanding service to our band and the movement, including an MBE from Queen Elizabeth 11, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Scottish Brass Band Association and he has been honoured as Honorary Vice President of the Scottish Brass Band Association ….. not bad for a former Coal Miner from our tiny wee village!

In spite of his achievements, Hugh has never forgotten his roots, he will help anyone and everyone and he continues to be the guy who is producing and grooming youngsters for our junior and senior bands and he is working as hard for Dalmellington Band now as he has ever done in the past.

Band members were proud when our President – Bert Ritchie presented Hugh with a wee gift a few weeks ago in our bandhall ( his second home ) and we had a smashing celebration and a wee drink to mark the occasion!

We are just lucky that Hugh chose to stay in Dalmellington and work his magic!
