Rachel Jones  -  Under 12s Champion of Scotland!

Dalmellington Band are delighted to announce that we have a young Scottish Solo Champion for the second year in a row!  Rachael Jones, just 11 years old and a member of the Dalmellington Junior Band, won the top title in 2008 and again this year, in the Regal Theatre, Bathgate on Saturday 7^th February.   

 

Winning “back-to-back” titles is extremely difficult at any level and we are all so proud of Rachael, who gives the perfect example of what can be achieved with hard work and natural talent!  Rachael, like many more of our youngsters, is in the Dalmellington Band Hall several nights per week, receiving top class tuition from Hugh Johnstone MBE and other experienced tutors.

 

We had other finalists at the event and they all performed to a very high standard:

 

Under 16s Quartet

 

Duncan McCluskie, Kieran Purdie, Lisa Chalmers and Gail Limond received a “GOLD” Award and came 4^th of 11 ensembles

 

Under 16s Solo Competition

 

Duncan McCluskie just missed out on the top 3 prize list, but performed really well and is “one to watch” for the future!

 

16 – 21 Solo Competition

 

Cameron Paterson and John Calderwood both qualified for the finals, just missing out on a top 3 prize, but again, both are strong players and a credit to our organisation!
